A Palestinian State
In days, the Palestinians will ask the UN to support recognition of their state along side Israel. Most countries in the world think the time has come, but the US is threatening to veto. The only way to change this is if citizens across the US support this new path to peace and security. Sign the urgent petition.
In days, the Palestinians will ask the UN to recognize their basic right to freedom and independence. Most of the world’s nations support the Palestinian bid as legitimate, but the Israeli extreme right-wing government has convinced the US to block it.
Many of us Israeli citizens fear that by blocking the Palestinian bid, the US is, in fact, acting against Israel’s national interests and is increasing the chances of violence. As Israelis, we support this Palestinian non-violent, diplomatic initiative as a crucial step towards a future of two independent states, living side by side. If all of our friends across the US speak out now for peace, we could turn the US government around before it is too late.
The only way to push through this new bid is massive public pressure to get the US government to act as a true friend of Israel and of peace. We only have days. Click to sign the petition for an independent Palestinian state next to Israel and then forward this message to everyone you know:
The story of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is complicated, but most – including the Obama administration and Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s PM – agree that the best way to reach peace and security is an agreement based on two states. But after decades of occupation and over ten years of failed peace talks, both sides have lost trust in negotiations. Even the Palestinian Authority’s extensive efforts to prevent violence and terror in recent years has not convinced the Israeli government to engage in serious talks.
Now, the only way to resume talks and get a final solution is UN recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, that would provide necessary international guarantees for a negotiated two-state resolution. It’s time for a dramatic shift away from a futile peace process and on to a new path for progress. Click now to call on the US government to vote for peace and security in the Middle East:
While the Israeli and US governments are calling the Palestinian initiative ‘unilateral’, in fact the world’s nations overwhelmingly support this diplomatic move away from violence. Israelis and Palestinians need the US to stop blocking and provide support now so that the world’s recognition of a Palestinian state will lead to the resumption of serious peace talks and to the peace and security we all long for.
