As Picasso’s paintings fill your eyes with images of color, this smoothie will fill your mouth with an array of flavors and inundate your taste buds with a splash of brilliance. I had to travel by time machine to meet Picasso in person and obtain this recipe from his private diary.

Yield: 5 cups

1 cup filtered water
2 large bananas
1/2 cup raspberries
6-10 seedless grapes
1/4 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
1/4 cup cranberry juice
1/4 cup firm tofu
1 tablespoon protein powder
1 teaspoon peanut butter
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and blend on high speed for 1 minute.

Pour into tall glasses and let your creative juices flow.

Grandy’s Cranberry Crunch

This smoothie is not for the faint of heart; it is a sweet and tart elixir with a very strong flavor. Cranberry juice is excellent for relief of urinary tract and yeast infections. Make sure you use 100 percent pure cranberry juice, not the watered-down cranberry blends often sold in supermarkets.

Yield: 5 cups

2 1/2 cups pure cranberry juice
2 tablespoons frozen lemonade concentrate or 2 cups fresh lemonade
1 cup apple juice
2 ripe bananas
1 cup seedless grapes
3/4 cup Grape Nuts cereal
3/4 cup honey

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and puree on medium speed for 1 minute.

Pour into tall glasses and serve up one of Grandma’s treats.

The Voluptuous Violet

Lady Godiva had nothing on The Voluptuous Violet. Its captivating taste surpasses the alluring talents of Cleopatra, Mata Hari and Isis. The Voluptuous Violet was kept from the public for many years for fear it would create emotional dependence and turn ordinary citizens into Sade and Shakira clones.

Yield: 5 cups

1/4 cup seedless grapes
1/4 cup blueberries
1/2 cup applesauce
3 cups filtered water
1 large banana
1/4 cup firm tofu
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon honey

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses and serve seductively.

Tutti-Frutti

Tutti-Frutti

Discovered in the vaults of the Kremlin after the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union, this recipe had been hermetically sealed in a safe that only the KGB had access to. Even Stalin, the notorious dictator, didn’t know of its whereabouts. Perhaps if he had sampled the Tutti-Frutti, he would have been much sweeter and more understanding.

Yield: 4 servings

2 apricots, peeled and sliced
1 nectarine, peeled and sliced
1 cup seedless grapes
1 tablespoon honey
3 cups milk
1 banana
2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses and serve while listening to Little Richard singing Tutti-Frutti.

Taste The Invisible Moose

When you think of Sweden, you think of moose, and you’d expect to find them everywhere, wouldn’t you? Not necessarily. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon (many years ago) and stayed with our friends. They took us to well-known moose locations far and wide, including the king’s hunting grounds. They even took us to the zoo in a last, desperate attempt to prove there were indeed moose in Sweden. But the closest we came to seeing moose were the highway signs warning drivers to watch out for them.

You won’t have the same problem with The Invisible Moose. It has a unique taste that is unforgettable, and you can make it appear before your delighted eyes as often as you wish.

1 cup soy, oak, rice or dairy milk
1 cup apple juice
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 tablespoon nutritional yeast
1/4 cup sliced almonds

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and mix on high speed for 1 minute.

Pour into tall glasses, serve and be on the lookout for moose, especially if you’re driving in Sweden.

The Leaping Gazelle Smoothie

Gazelles are one of the oldest mammals in existence – they’ve been around for over 12 million years! They are admired for their graceful appearance, and have been known to leap as high as twelve feet straight into the air. This smoothie won’t make you leap that high, or you’d hit your head on the ceiling, but it will make your insides jump for joy.

Yield: 4 cups

1 cup apricot juice, or 1 cup sliced apricots
1 cup raspberry juice, or 1 cup raspberries
1 cup cranberry juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 ripe banana

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and mix on low speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses, keep your feet on the ground and serve.

What mammal often lives to be 70 years old and can feed itself, spray water, and lift heavy objects with its long, flexible trunk? The elephant of course! As you might guess, elephants have a strong sense of smell. They can smell water – or a smoothie – long before they see it. If you practice, you, too, may soon be able to smell The Elephant’s Child from afar, but that means drinking smoothies on a daily basis, using proper “smoothie etiquette” at all times.

Yield: 3 cups

2 cups soy milk
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons of your favorite jelly
1 ripe banana
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons oat bran

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and mix on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses, smell the aroma and serve.

The Honey Bunny

The Honey Bunny

images-1Bunnies are better known as rabbits or hares. They’re cute, cuddly, furry, and wiggle their noses and hop around on large back legs. Everyone loves them. In the wild, they’re prey for many animals, and in captivity they’re prey for children who want to snuggle and squeeze them to death. Remember, this drink is not an animal. Do not squeeze it or try to make it hop, or it could get quite messy!

Yield: 4.5  cups

2 ripe bananas

1/3 cup banana-strawberry yogurt (dairy or non-dairy)

1/4 cup firm tofu

3 tablespoons honey

2 cups milk (soy, rice or dairy)

Place tall the ingredients in a blender, and mix on medium speed for 45 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses, serve and bounce with delight.

Except for the polar bear; most bears are dark in color and are usually peaceful and timid unless disturbed. If you happen to surprise a bear, especially a mother with cubs, you have two choices. One, slowly back away and act like you don’t exist; or two, offer it a Smokey Bear smoothie. This is one of my favorites – cool, refreshing and filling.

Yield: 4 cups

3 cups soy milk
3 tablespoons carob powder
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
1 cup firm tofu
2 ripe bananas
2 tablespoons honey

1. Place all ingredients in a blender, and mix on medium speed for 30 seconds.

2. Place the smoothie mixture in the freezer for 5 minutes, until chilled.

3. Pour into tall glasses, serve, drink your fill and go into hibernation.

A traditional all-American non-traditional drink for the world. For a Father Knows Best (not really), The Cosby Show, Modern Family treat, try this mother.

Yield: 3 cups

2 baked apples (bake at 350*F for 10-15 minutes or until soft)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup brown rice syrup or honey
1 1/2 cups filtered water

1. Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.

2. Pour into tall glasses and serve your mother.
