Marmalaide

This is my latest creation from a block of orange alabaster stone from Colorado. I’ve taken longer on this piece than any previously, trying to get it to shine. The impressions (in case it’s not obvious) are supposed to be lily stems and petals. Here are some views and the spot in the house where it fits perfectly with the surrounding color.IMG_0072

Grainy Curves

This is from a block of limestone. I tried filling in the grooves I made in the rock with an orange/red puddie/paint, but it didn’t stick, so had to re-sand and leave as is. The shape emerged as I carved. The brown grains in the rock look good. Then used bees wax to polish and protect. It’s called Grainy Curves.

Orange Marmalade

Orange Marmalade

This was finished about a month ago and I hid it in the garage to give to Audrey on her birthday. Her birthday came and went and I forgot where I’d put it. All of a sudden I wondered why she hadn’t put the sculpture up somewhere in the house and realized she hadn’t seen it yet! I found it and gave it to her yesterday.

This is my best sculpture so far. It is from a slab of orange translucent alabaster. Since I do not have a tool to make holes in stone, it took some time using a small cone abrasive on the end of the angle grinder to make it happen. Many hours of shaping and sanding and grinding discovered this inside the rock.

Back to Back

These two rock creatures are stuck together like glue (actually with glue). I shaped them from a piece of Oregon river rock (granite) and orange fluorescent alabaster.

It is called Back To Back. Hope you enjoy the photos. They don’t quite bring out the clarity or grain as some close-ups would have done.

The Shadow – Liquid Sunshine

The Shadow (Drink With Sunshine)

Nobody knows where this smoothie came from or how it was discovered. There is no reference to it in any of the literature or cookbooks in the world, but The Shadow knows . . . it tastes great!

Yield: 4 servings

6 tablespoons frozen orange juice
3 bananas
2 cups milk (soy, rice, almond or dairy)
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
8 ice cubes

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and mix on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses and serve (in the sun or shade).

Orangutan Tang

Orangutan Tang

The orangutan is closely related to the chimpanzee, the gorilla, and humans. Its name comes from two Malay words meaning “man” and “jungle.” They enjoy eating fruits and vegetables, and love to play and get into mischief. This smoothie resembles the orangutan in its playfulness and rich, brownish-red color.

Yield: 4 cups

1 1/2 cups rice milk
1 cup plain yogurt (soy or dairy)
1 banana
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon orange extract

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and mix on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses, serve and become a little mischievous.

2 cups chocolate low-fat soy milk
1 8pounce carton strawberry low-fat yogurt
1/2 cup chopped mango
1 banana, in chunks
10 strawberries
1/4 cup raspberries
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Place all ingredients in a blender and mix on medium for 90 seconds.

Pour into tall glasses and serve with sensual slices of orange.

Yield: 4 Cups

Per Cup: Calories 166; Protein 5 g; Total Fat 2 g; Saturated Fat 1 g; Carbohydrate 35 g; Cholesterol 5 mg.
